Cross the border using the Truck Route which brings you onto Hwy. 15. (Note: TOPES are very
large speed bumps!)
Travel down Hwy. 15 toward Hermosillo for about 5 miles to the first toll booth (US dollars or pesos). Pay toll and continue to the first inspection point. Here you will get either a Red light or a Green light. If the light is red – STOP- and you may be asked to show ID and have an inspection. If green, proceed slowly.
Continue on Hwy. 15 toward Hermosillo about 8 miles more to KM21 where you need to stop and obtain your personal ‘Visa’ permit. You must provide some proof of citizenship (passport, original birth certificate, original voters card, picture ID, etc.) to obtain your Visa which costs about $23.00 US. Note: If you plan on traveling beyond Kino Bay and out of the Free Zone (it ends at Empalme) you will also need to register your vehicle here.
Return to your vehicle, leave the parking area and enter the lane “Nothing to Declare”. Watch the lights again – Red light – STOP for inspection, Green light – continue on down Hwy. 15 toward Hermosillo.
